Inskip rip takes young life

A VICTORIAN woman, 35, has died in hospital after drowning in surf at Inskip Point on Tuesday.

The woman, believed to have been camping at the Dorrigo Campgrounds, was dragged to shore by her partner at around 8.30am after being caught in a flash rip.

With the help of an off-duty policeman, the woman’s boyfriend administered CPR until ambulance arrived. They managed to get her heart going however she wasn’t breathing when she reached Nambour Hospital and passed away at around 11.30 Tuesday night.

Rainbow Beach life guards have asked visitors to the Cooloola Coast not to swim anywhere without flags.

They said a lot of flash rips had been occurring up and down the beach, caused by large seas stirring up sand and leaving it unstable.

It was believed a big rip had formed at the spot where the woman drowned.
