IN BRIEF: Thief and machete maker in court
Wallet theft fine
A HOTEL employee who stole money from a patron's misplaced wallet could not possibly have escaped getting caught, Gympie Magistrate M Baldwin told him on Monday. Mrs Baldwin fined Michael Thomas Wills $550 with the option of performing 25 hours community service. She said she took into account that Wills had lost his job, but said this was not surprising. Wills, 38, of Leeann Rd, Monkland, pleaded guilty to the charge and was ordered to pay $40 restitution.
GYMPIE man Andrew Neville Merigan was fined $550 with the option of 25 hours community service after he pleaded guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court to having a home made machete in Calton Hill. Merigan, 26, of New Zealand Ln, pleaded guilty to the July 28 charge.
