Improvement to Bauple stretch of highway soon

CONSTRUCTION of a new 1.1km overtaking lane on the Bruce Hwy near Bauple is underway and on track to be completed by the middle of next year.

The $6 million project will provide another opportunity for motorists north of Gympie to pass slower moving vehicles safely, complementing the safety improvements completed last year at the nearby intersection with Bauple Dr.

The project contract was awarded to Georgiou Group. Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Albanese said since coming to office in late 2007, Federal Labor had committed more than $3.3 billion to upgrading the Bruce Hwy.

The funding has rebuilt critical sections of the highway, installed 50 new overtaking lanes and fixed more than 100 dangerous black spots.
