Icy start for Pony Club comp

A CHILLY start to Sunday saw about 75 competitors brave the elements to compete in the Gympie and District Pony Club’s first competition of the year.

The Gymkhana saw a large contingent of Gympie competitors, about 30, and a few local wins.

Publicity officer Michelle Winston said competitors had to wait for ice to melt off the club’s new jumps before they could start.

“It was a great day, a little low on numbers but everyone went well,” she said.

It was the club’s first competition post-flood and volunteers had worked tirelessly since January to get the club back to its former glory.

Since the floodwaters completely covered the storage shed and flowed above table height into the club house, club members have had to install a new kitchen and buy new jumps.

But in the end with a new stainless steel kitchen the club was better for it, Mrs Winston said.
