WATERCOOLER: Bishop witch-hunt is getting plain nasty
I WAS anti-Bronwyn Bishop before it was cool.
Before she was the gun-slinging, helicopter-riding hot shot the country now loves to hate, Ms Bishop was the Cruella de Vil of parliament.
Ms Bishop's shameless bias during her career as Speaker of the House of Representatives had been the centre of many heated debates in the profoundly intellectual confines of the internet known as the YouTube comments section.
Regardless of how moronic some of those discussions have been, the internet had a point. She really is a horribly biased speaker.
And I certainly don't approve of the irresponsible lack of empathy shown toward the common taxpayer that has essentially landed her in the Tony Abbott naughty corner.
And let's be realistic, to be the shame of a Liberal Government that has been nothing short of Colonel Klink-run POW camp is quite a feat.
But there is something unnerving about the tirade of hatred that seems to be growing like a snowball rolling down a snow covered hill.
It has the nasty and vaguely familiar stench of a Julia Gillard witch-hunt.
Don't get me wrong - I love a good old-fashioned burning at the stake, but this feels eerily reminiscent of the kind of excessive sexual discrimination that 'Straya is becoming increasingly known for.
A lot of the internet memes are in good taste, but there are a couple that are bordering on misogyny.
And I probably agree more than anyone that she deserves to be scrutinised and maybe even investigated for her actions, but let's not get carried away.
