Hutchinson marks 100th birthday

HUTCHINSON Builders will tomorrow celebrate their 100th birthday at Rockhampton Town Hall - 71 years after they built it.

At the time it was the largest civic centre outside Brisbane.

About 200 employees and guests will attend the military-themed party, which will include tours of the building, antique military vehicles and memorabilia from the Central Queensland Military Museum.

Hutchinson Builders chairman Scott Hutchinson along with his father Jack will travel to Rockhampton for the event.

Rockhampton area manager Wayne Lauga said "Hutchies" had a strong presence in the region, with a number of local projects under way.

He said Hutchinson Builders had recently secured three more projects with Rockhampton Regional Council.

The group recently finished the redevelopment of the Rockhampton Southside Pool and the Alma Street units. But for tomorrow they can put up their steel-capped boots and relax.
