Beheading suspect caught

A FORMER soldier suspected of beheading a reclusive NSW man has been arrested just outside Darwin after a six-day manhunt by Northern Territory police.

The former army corporal Jonathon Andrew Stenberg was surrounded by heavily armed officers in bushland at Berry Springs at 3pm yesterday.

Police said the former combat engineer and war zone security contractor was carrying two loaded handguns and a rifle when confronted by police but surrendered without incident.

The 46-year-old was wanted on a warrant for the murder of Edward ''Ned'' Kelly, whose headless body was found in his home at Broadwater in northern NSW on June 21.

Mr Stenberg was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for medical assessment before being questioned by police.
