Huge weekend of junior rugby league

FIVE Gympie-based rugby league players will ply their trade on Albert Park today and tomorrow as part of the 47th Battalion two day carnival.

Jordan Stubbins, Bronson Buggy and Alan Anderson will play in the 14s age group as part of the Sunshine Coast Gold team.

Dallas Apirana and Joe Chapman will play for Sunshine Coast Gold in the 13s.

The five boys hope to be selected in their respective Wide Bay sides to play at the state carnival later in the year.

This is the first time Gympie Junior Rugby League has hosted the event for a number of years.

Ten games will be played each day at Albert Park with teams from Bundaberg, Fraser Coast facing off against two Sunshine Coast teams (Gold and Blue).

Gates open 8am on Saturday with the first game to kick off at 9.50am. On Sunday gates open at 7.30am with the first game to kick off at 9am.

Two fields will be in operation, the canteen will be open and entry is $5 while school-aged students are free.
