All were considered faux pas when they met Queen Elizabeth II, who is due to arrive in Brisbane a week from today.

Though her visit to coincide with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting will be brief, there will be both formal and informal opportunities for locals to get more than a look at their head of state.

Following a cruise along the Brisbane River to view flood sites, the Queen and Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh, will stroll along the Cultural Centre at South Bank, where those uninvited to the two formal receptions could catch a glimpse of the Monarch.

But when it comes show does one ensure Her Majesty receives the right royal treatment?
