How to do Eat Street the right way
EVERY Friday and Saturday night, Hamilton comes alive with Eat Street - the ultimate street food bonanza.
It can be a little overwhelming for first-timers, so we've pulled together everything you need to know to get the most out of your Eat Street experience and to avoid a food coma when you're only one stall deep.
1. There is on-site parking, but the best way to get there is on the City-Cat, getting off at Brett's Wharf.
2. Bring cash. There are ATMs, but chances are you'll walk in, see something delicious and demand stall-holders take your money right away, so you don't want the delay of an ATM queue.
3. Crack a lap and suss out what's on offer and make a game plan. We ventured into the foodie wonderland for a sneak peek into some of the dishes on offer. Here's what we came up with: Start with a snack like a cone of sweet potato fried from Phunky Dory or grab a fresh oyster tasting plate. Go for savoury next.
Try some deep-fried flat bread with mind-blowing toppings from the Hungarian Langos stall or a 'Japanese Pizza' from Okonomi House.
Next go for some street food classics like calamari from Mr Calamari or chicken skewers from The Filipino Street Food stall. If you're still hungry, try a crispy pork belly, apple and fennel slaw burger from Poulet & Porc which is even more amazing than it sounds.
Now it's time for sweets, and there is plenty to choose from. Don't walk past the World Famous Funnel Cakes stall. Imagine a mix between a waffle, doughnut and a churro, drenched in everything delicious.
Gluten-free? Well there's heaps for you too! The guys at Gluten Off have got you covered.
If you don't leave feeling 100% satisfied, you should go back to step one and start again. Check out more HERE, including a video of what to expect.
