Hospital boards announced
THE State Health minister has selected the people responsible for de-centralising the state's heath network.
The current health structure will be replaced with 17 regional health and hospital boards.
The Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Board includes nursing and midwifery associate professor Dr Lorraine Ferguson AM and Coolum MP and former president of the Australian Medical Association Queensland Dr Mason Stevenson.
Bradley Elms and Dr Martine Pop are also board members.
South Burnett Regional councillor Cheryl Dalton and Terry Fleischfresser are on the Darling Downs Board along with Warwick GP Dr Ross Hetherington and Toowoomba paediatrician Dr Jeff Prebble.
Dr Dennis Campbell, Dr Ian Keys, Ms Marie Pietsch and Ms Danielle Causer are also on the board.
In Central Queensland, Cotton Australia regional manager Bronwyn Christensen, Fitzroy Basin Association director Kurt Heidecker, Dr Leone Hinton of Central Queensland University, Roy (Charles) Ware are board members.
Mackay councillor Darryl Camilleri, Tom McMillan, Professor Richard Murray and David Aprile make up the Mackay Hospital and Health board.
The Wide Bay Hospital and Health Board consists of Deborah Carroll, Adrian Daniel, Barbara Hovard and Associate Professor Brad Murphy
Announcing the members on Thursday afternoon, Health Minister Lawrence Springborg said the new structure would help restore confidence in local community health services.He said devolved decision-making was a key part of the strategy to rebuild Queensland Health."With local boards in control of local health assets, clinicians and health workers will be able to work side-by-side with decision makers," Mr Springborg said.
"This change is long-overdue and has been welcomed across this state."
Mr Springborg said membership on the board could be increased and the recruitment of Health and Hospital Service chief executive officers would soon be finalised.
