Stargate actor explores the Mackay region
ACTOR Tony Amendola swapped cosplay for canefields as he explored the on the back of a successful Sugar City Con event.
Amendola was the international guest for regional Queensland's biggest pop culture event, and a huge draw card for festival-goers over the weekend.
The Mackay tour was an opportunity for Amendola to see the wallabies at Cape Hillsborough during sunrise, enjoy breakfast at the Old Station Teahouse, a trip to Eungella and Broken River to spot platypus, learn more about Greenmount Homestead and have lunch with a view at the Eimeo Pacific Hotel.
It was Amendola's first time to northern Australia, and he said he was impressed with the natural beauty of the region.
"It was fantastic to see more than I normally would in regional Australia," he said.
"The places we explored were a real treat and I enjoyed seeing the wildlife and natural beauty of the region."
Amendola has an outstanding resume for science fiction and fantasy shows, and his voice has also appeared in cartoon and computer games.
He is best known for his role playing Jaffa master Bra'tac in Stargate SG-1 and his recurring role on the television show Continuum.
He is currently playing a character on ABC's Once Upon a Time as Pinocchio's creator/father, Geppetto.
He started his acting career on the stage with multiple theatre credits before moving to Los Angeles to focus on film and television work.
His numerous film and television credits has seen him work on projects with Johnny Depp, Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton, Nathan Fillion, Lena Headey and Richard Dean Anderson.
Amendola has a passion for studying languages and practices yoga.
He lives in Silver Lake with his wife Judith.
