Police nab servo robber

A QUICK call by a passer-by enabled Warwick police to arrest an 18-year-old man during an attempted armed robbery at a service station on the southern side of Warwick about 11pm Saturday.

Detective Sergeant Darren Tamblyn said a person in a balaclava approached the console operator at the service station demanding a packet of cigarettes.

"The console operator refused and the person continued the threats," Det Sgt Tamblyn said.

"A person driving along the road rang police, the police arrived and the offender ran out the front.

"Police pulled him up at gunpoint and he was arrested and taken to the police station and put in the watchhouse."

Det Sgt Tamblyn praised the person who informed police and the actions of the two police crews who arrived at the scene quickly.

"The person didn't have a weapon but was pretending as he had his arm behind his back," he said.

A 16-year-old Warwick juvenile, who was also allegedly involved, was located yesterday and dealt with under the Juvenile Justice Act.

"CCTV footage shows that on Saturday night, the two people walked into the service station and returned an hour later," Det Sgt Tamblyn said.

The 18-year-old will appear in court today.
