Hockey stars shine in Newcastle

GYMPIE’S Queensland hockey stars competing at the Australian School boy’s carnival in Newcastle have been competing well.

Drew Wenzel, Joey Collins and Patrick Barnes have all played strongly in Queensland’s first two games.

Queensland lost 3-1 to New South Wales and then backed up with a win against the New South Wales second side 1-0 on Monday.

In the first game talented striker Wenzel copped a blow to the head and had to have stitches in an eyebrow before returning to the field.

The boys will play Tasmania and Western Australia tomorrow before having a rest day tomorrow.
