Clinics for hockey goal keepers
GOALKEEPING is a position in hockey often overlooked when it comes to specialised coaching.
But this is not the case for Gympie Hockey after recently hosting tailored goalkeeping sessions for a number of its junior players.
Gympie Hockey publicity officer Desli Adams said Maryborough’s Jeff Daley made two special trips to Gympie to conduct clinics.
“Jeff is an experienced coach who has been heavily involved in hockey for many years, having toured with state teams and the Brisbane Scorchers and Blades,” Adams said.
“Over recent years Jeff has turned his training energy and expertise to the position of goalkeeping after a group of coaches and hockey officials identified this as an area needing attention.”
The Gympie juniors couldn’t have received their coaching at a better time as they continue their preparations ahead of state championships later this year.
The sessions put the young players through their paces, allowing Jeff to identify personal strengths and weaknesses and develop training strategies accordingly.
Daley has indicated he is keen to return in the future to host further clinics.
Gympie Hockey development officer Ian Austin has welcomed the offer.
