Knockout game looms for Heat

A SUDDEN death match today will determine if the Cooloola Heat Hockey side breaks through to make history by reaching its first-ever grand final.

The Heat travel to Maryborough to play Wallaroos and the winner of the clash will play indomitable Granville in the grand final.

Being in a position to strike for a finals berth required the Heat to defeat Brothers last week in another knockout game.

Despite a tough game, the Heat produced the form when it counted most to get up 2-1 and advance and send Brothers packing.

Meanwhile, Wallaroos lost to Granville in their semi-final clash and will be throwing everything at the Heat today to make the most of their second chance.

Heat captain Ben Fitzpatrick said the side was at near strength with the only real concern being team veteran Dave Innis who will play under an injury cloud.

“Regardless of the result, this season has produced a lot of improvement and we should be really happy with that,” he said.
