Hillbillies go hard in Big Bash
GYMPIE'S Helltown Hillbillies had their first game and win in the XXXX Summer Big Bash in Maryborough on Sunday.
It should have been their second match, but the first game against Maryborough's Australs, was rained out.
It was set to be the grand final re-match and the Hillbillies were ready to win again, but now have to wait.
Sunday's game saw the Hillbillies meet last year's semi-finalists, the Bundy Boys.
Hillbillies' spokesperson Kristy Chandler said the team went in expecting a big game and they weren't disappointed.
"We had heard whispers they were going to be the team to beat," she said.
The Hillbillies won the toss and elected to bat.
"We made 161," Chandler said.
Cameron Quinn and Josh Brady set a good start, with Quinn making 74 and Brady 46.
"(It was) a nice, healthy total for Bundy Boys to chase down.
"At the 20th over we had Bundy Boys 5 for 92," she said.
She said Glen Brady was 3 for12 after four overs and commented on the tight bowling from Travis Chandler, Justin Chandler, Karl Leupold, Josh Brady and Tyson Hillcoat.
The Hillbillies are confident they are again strong competitors for the grand final and are hoping to match last year's undefeated streak.
They play the Website Warriors on July 8.
