Highway upgrade is a must

IT'S great to see the Gympie Regional Council getting behind the push to fast-track the Bruce Hwy upgrade past Gympie.

Council is seeking a deputation with Deputy Prime Minster Warren Truss to highlight concerns about not proceeding with Section D of the planned highway upgrade at the same time as Section C.

Councillor and ambulance officer Wayne Sachs has led the charge for a safer highway for more than 15 years.

He says the current push is needed so the four-lane highway doesn't end near the Gold Nugget truck stop funnelling four lanes into two.

Both sections C and D need to be done as soon as possible to save lives.

The added work from the massive project will also help Gympie's other problem, unemployment.

A four-lane highway will also open many opportunities for business in the region.

It's a win-win for Gympie. The highway needs to be fast-tracked now.
