BOXING: It's on. Australia's biggest grudge match between Anthony Mundine and Danny Green will take place at the Adelaide Oval in February next year.
Not surprisingly both Mundine, 41, who won on points in the last fight between the duo in 2006, and Green, 43, predicted they would win the rematch at a press conference yesterday.
"I've been fighting with a bad hip - a very bad hip - for the last seven, eight years,” Mundine said.
"That's fixed now. I feel my feet are back, my movement's back.
"I just want to put this s*** to rest, that I'm the better man.
"Skills pay the bills. I'm going to be as sharp as I was in 2006.”
Both men suggested that whatever the result, next year's fight would be the last of their celebrated careers, with West Australian Green saying defeating "the Man” would be the perfect way to finish.
"You hit me with everything you had with two hips. I didn't stop marching forward,” Green said.
"I'll do it now if he wants to. I'm warmed up. Somebody throw him some gloves. He's going to get smoked like a cigar. He think he's the best and I think I'm better than him.”
Green said while he respected Mundine as a boxer, he was not on his friends list.
"I don't like him. I don't like some of the s*** that he talks or some of the s*** he stands for,” he said.
"I don't like the way he chooses to divide the community. We had a chance the last fight to unite people and instead he chose to divide them.”
The last time Mundine was in a ring he was beaten by American Charles Hatley in November last year.
Green defeated Kane Watts on points last August to win the vacant Australian cruiserweight title.
The bout is set to take place at a catch weight of 83kg.
For Mundine that would mean he would have to weigh in 13kg higher than his last fight with Hatley.
Mundine said the extra weight would suit Green but he was still confident he could beat his arch-rival on February 3.
"You know what weight we're fighting at? We're fighting at 'Danny Weight',” he said.
"But, you know what, it don't matter, I'm going to school him again.”
