Heritage runs gains momentum

GYMPIE long distance running addict Carl Hebel is on the verge of signing up a swag of sponsors to make his world heritage run a reality.

Hebel, 70, intends to undertake a world record-breaking run around the world, taking 500 days to complete and clocking in at a staggering 20,000 kilometres.

The run will start on Hebel’s 71st birthday in October in Hebel Queensland before finishing 500 days later in Hebel Germany.

Covering the equivalent of a full marathon a day for 500 days, the undertaking is no easy achievement.

Hebel said McDonalds worldwide had jumped on board and he would finalise a contract with the global giant in Sydney, Monday.

Later next week, Hebel will be doing business with Coca Cola in Atlanta after finalising sponsorship from the Hebel Company in Gosford on Tuesday.
