Help for Rattler welcome

GYMPIE Mayor Ron Dyne and CEO Bernard Smith both alluded this week to the fact that the State Government had decided to take the Mary Valley Rattler under its wing.

Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney says his government wants to see the Rattler running all the way to Imbil.

Gympie Regional Council and Member for Gympie David Gibson have done a wonderful thing in saving the Rattler from what looked, at times, like certain death.

It has not been an easy road and, as Cr Dyne said this week, there will no doubt be some more "argy bargy" on the Rattler's road to recovery.

The heritage rail is worth about $5 million to our local economy, and with the council now confident of solid and ongoing support from the state, it too feels confident in injecting $150,000 to help with the "start-up".

The confidence it will restore in the Valley is priceless. Bravo.
