Help catch carbon tax ripoffs

CONSUMERS worried that a company is falsely claiming price increases due to the carbon tax can now call for help.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission launched a new carbon price claims hotline on Monday.

People concerned about claims price rises in products or services they buy are related to the carbon tax can now report it to the ACCC.

ACCC chairman Rod Sims said consumers might be duped into accepting such cost increases, when the carbon tax was not the cause.

"Through the Carbon Price Claims Hotline, the ACCC invites complaints about false or misleading carbon price claims," he said.

Suspect claims can be reported on 1300 303 609.
