Heat women win again at home

HOCKEY: The Cooloola Heat women's hockey side notched up their sixth win from their last seven games when they played Caloundra at the Gympie Hockey Centre on Sunday.

The 6-1 win moves the team into outright third position on the Sunshine Coast competition ladder.

Goal scorers were Jamie Mills 2, Annie Collins, Melinda Baker, Natalie Pagel and Majella Barnes.

Coach Ben Fitzpatrick said it was good to see a few goals go in during the match.

He said scoring goals was something the team had been working on at training.

"All of the girls played well led by our strikers up front," Fitzpatrick said.

"They put a lot of pressure on Caloundra's defence which created turnovers and led to many goal-scoring opportunities.

"We moved the ball around quite well which is something this team prides itself on."

The girls will have to step it up another notch as they take on ladder leaders Flinders at Buderim on Sunday.

"We should be at full strength with the return of Kellie Pagel," Fitzpatrick said.
