Heat needs to fire up
COOLOOLA Heat only has two fixtures left to find form this season after going down to Brothers on Saturday and the Wallaroos Sunday.
Although struggling this year, a majority of the Heat's games have been extremely close, Gympie striker Ben Fitzpatrick said yesterday.
"In the last couple of weeks we have been pulling it together and every game has been close," he said.
"We're just struggling to put away our goals and letting our opposition take an early advantage."
In their game against Wallaroos on Sunday, the Heat had a slow first half and within 10 minutes were already down 2-0.
Working their way back into the match, Gympie went into the half-time break 2-1 and hoped to secure an equaliser early in the second half.
"We wanted to get back into the match but the Roos (Wallaroos) came out firing in the second half and scored another two goals to make it 4-1," Fitzpatrick said.
"We snatched a goal back before full-time but it was too late and the final score was 4-2."
Although they went down, Fitzpatrick said he was happy with the team's performance and said Neil McKean and Lachlan Kenman had great games.
Now preparing for their fixture against Granville this weekend, the Heat is hoping to come away with a win.
Granville will come into the match searching for redemption after losing to the Wallaroos 4-5 on Friday.
"If we can pull a win before the finals it will definitely put us in good stead," Fitzpatrick said.
"Granville will be tough but we have been playing some good hockey recently.
"We were really struggling mid-way through the season but we have pulled it together in the past few weeks and are confident we still have a chance at the finals in three weeks."
