Heat hits magic form in 3-0 win

IT has been a long time coming, but the Cooloola Heat finally lived up to expectations by downing Brothers 3-0 on Saturday.

The Gympie hockey side had been in a form slump after losing four on the trot, but showed sparkling form to dominate Brothers on Saturday.

The team was stung by their worst loss of the season against Roos the previous weekend and came prepared with a new game plan and attitude for the Brothers clash.

Cooloola coach Ben Fitzpatrick steeled the team to attack the Brothers left side defence and the plan worked to perfection.

Nathan Stephens dominated the right side attack while uncle Dave Innis scored two neat goals to give the Heat a two-nil lead at half time.

A Mitchell Kuether intercept early in the second half saw the striker out-pace the defence and drag the goal keeper to score the third goal of the match.

With a 3-0 nil lead the Heat started to stumble with some panicky play, but showed composure to hold out the Brothers attack and keep a clean slate on the scoreboard.

The return of left-midfielder Daniel Naismith strengthened the Heat.

Naismith was on fire during the game continually raiding the Brothers goal and was unlucky not to score.
