Sunshine Coast Health has new driver at the wheel

SUNSHINE Coast Medicare Local and its consortia partners have secured operational rights for the Sunshine Coast and Central Queensland Primary Health Network.

CEO of the Sunshine Coast Health Network (which now trades as SCML) Pattie Hudson said their appointment would provide employment within the region.

"This decision will enable 35 local staff employed in our Sunshine Coast and Gympie offices to reapply for positions and new positions will be advertised publicly," she said.

"Primary health care, particularly that provided by GPs and multidisciplinary health practitioners, is a cost-effective way to prevent chronic disease, to increase awareness of the benefit of healthy lifestyles for all ages, and to achieve the greatest value from scarce health dollars," Mrs Hudson said.

"In the last three years operating Sunshine Coast Medicare Local, we have established a strong track record of working with GPs, our Hospital and Health Service, local councils, community groups and other stakeholders to implement innovative health solutions for the Sunshine Coast and Gympie regions."

The new network will be operational as of July1.
