THE council wants your opinion on the next stage of revamping the main strip of Rainbow Beach.

Street furniture design, landscaping and footpath finishes are all on the table for the public to comment on as part of the second and final stage of the tourist spot's upgrade.

Stage one saw the "undergrounding of power" and the installation of new street lights on Rainbow Beach Rd completed earlier this year.

Stage 1 of the Rainbow Beach town centre revamp was completed earlier in the year – including removal of above ground power lines.

Stage two aims to make streetscape improvements at "targeted locations throughout the town centre."

This includes up to ten new parking bays and a new, central raised pedestrian crossing,

new gardens and landscaping, new public seating, more recycling bins and improvements to the crossing to the foreshore at Kirchner Ave.

The project will be a $1 million state investment by completion.

Area 1 will have 8 – 10 parking bays added with the removal of the central U-turn facility.

It's an improvement long overdue says Gympie council Division One councillor Jess Milne.

"We all know how special Rainbow Beach is and while we want to maintain its unique charm, we also recognise that it's one of our region's hottest tourism destinations and it needs a bit of TLC," Cr Milne said.

"By seeking the community's feedback we can ensure that any improvements build upon all that is great about this unique spot.

"We have to remember that we are working to a budget and that means the work needs to focus on priority areas, like increasing carparking in the street."
