Christmas spirit in Mary Street

IT’S beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

All down Gympie’s main street the spirit of Christmas is alive with tinsel hanging from posts and shop keepers dressing up their stores.

Spreading some cheer in Mary Street yesterday Gympie Regional Council Mayor Ron Dyne and Cr Larry Friske announced new Christmas banners had gone up.

The design of the new banners and their creation was done in-house by council staff and Cr Dyne said the 16 banners were “on trial”.

If people like them, then next year there will be more.

Other ideas, like lowering the banners so they can be more easily viewed and using existing sign poles will be looked at, Cr Friske says.
