Top start for Harlequins' A-grade
IT was a good start to the season for the Harlequins' A-grade team, beating Valleys in their game of the Gympie Cricket Association Sunshine Mitre 10 League.
After two innings, over the past two Saturdays, Harlequins walked away victorious topping Valleys' 224 runs by 76 at Albert Park.
Harlequins winning performances began with four wickets from Craig Sorrell and three from Luck Wheeler and finished with Danny Sheppersen making 82 runs, Shane Zahner 53 and Sorrell clocking up 74.
Ashley Lawless claimed 56 runs and Kayden Dickfos claimed 46 runs to kick Valleys off to a good start, but they couldn't keep Harlequins down in the second innings.
Harlequins president and A-grade player Peter Kross said while there'd been some changes to the team's line up, he had faith in the new young recruits.
With John McClintock and Brett Sorrell retired as of this season, Chris Darrach off to Brisbane and last year's captain Dean Chandler out recovering from knee surgery, new recruit Mark Smith has been brought on board and Sean Ringuet has been promoted to opening batsman.
"I know they can do the job for us," Kross said.
