Gympie's public toilets causing a real stink
THE cleanliness of the public toilets near the Memorial Gates has come under fire on social media after someone posted about the 'horrid' state they are in this week.
Tiffany Lambert posted her disgust to the Gympie Whinge and Vent Facebook page yesterday:
"How can any one want to use these toilets when all of them had toilet paper clogging them, marks all over the seats and the smell was horrid.
"It is ridiculous; and to think this is what people that aren't from here are seeing when they stop in for a couple of hours on their way through.
"I was absolutely disgusted.”
Others joined in the discussion:
Martin Laffey: "If Gympie's public toilets get a reputation for being filthy to visitors passing through town, nobody will stop here and who could blame them.”
Sally Leeder: "I went there, and every time it was disgusting, makes me sick , not going back there, ever.”
Terri Porter: "I used the ones down near the park yesterday they were quite good but there is never any soap anywhere these days; take my own hand wash.”
The Gympie Times contacted the Gympie Regional Council to find out how often the toilets are cleaned.
A spokesman for the council's Community Facilities said the toilets at the Memorial Gates are cleaned twice daily; once in the morning while unlocking and once in the evening when the facilities are locked.
He said all toilets in the city were cleaned twice a day, and the council had heard of no recent complaints about public toilets in the area.
The Gympie Times would like your input to the discussion- do you think this is a real problem and what can be done to keep the toilets clean?
