Gympie's own national teen talent contender
LIKE any young person getting started in a competitive world, Gympie's Elise Nicholson is looking forward to pitting her abilities against young women from all over Australia, starting today.
Miss Nicholson fronts up at Flaxton Gardens today for the regional finals of the Miss Teen Australia quest.
"I'll be having high tea at Flaxton,” she said.
And she will be doing so at a fairly high altitude by Sunshine Coast hinterland standards, as she puts her best foot forward.
That will be a big step and she is hoping for all the support Gympie people can give her.
From there, her fond hope is to head to the Gold Coast for the next level in the competition and, from there, to Tasmania, for the finals.
"The first part of this event is 'fitness wear',” the 14-year-old James Nash State High School student said yesterday.
"We are too young for the traditional swimwear competition,” she said.
After that comes evening wear.
"I'm a local Gympie girl,” she said, announcing that she is also giving the contest a good Gympie go.
Elise is a triple threat in the "Arts” section of the competition, because of abilities she has worked hard to develop and polish, especially dancing, acting and singing.
A natural performer, she says she loves nothing better than being "on stage or in front of a camera”.
She is also a model who recently won a Facebook competition that took her to Melbourne for a portfolio photo-shoot.
And it is self-evident that she also has a brilliant talent for communicating with people and promoting events.
In addition to getting into her local daily news outlet, she also has developed an impressive 1600 followers on her Instagram account.
When it comes to the arts, as performed by others, she is also a big movie fan.
"My favourite movie is Love Actually,” she said.
And she confesses confessed that has a lot to do with Hugh Grant.
"I could honestly listen to Hugh Grant's spoken monologue at the start of the movie over and over and never get bored.
"The move reflects on and reminds me that 'love actually is all around'.”
"It is an absolutely beautiful movie,” she said..”
It may be that our Elise Nicholson has a future of her own in the movies, or in some other area of theatre or dance, as well as singing.
It all adds up to a big future in performing and, with luck and our good wishes, it all starts today.
