Gympie’s huge effort at Wide Bay Trials

GYMPIE'S future Aussie rules stars travelled to Hervey Bay last week to contest the Wide Bay Trials.

Competing in the two-day tournament, the Gympie under-12 side played its best in an attempt to gain Wide Bay selection.

The team struggled throughout the two-day competition but showed incredible sportsmanship towards opposing teams, spectator Nicole Burr said.

"Win or lose they held their heads high, congratulated their opposition and represented Gympie with pride," she said.

"On the sidelines their parents, coach and team manager proudly watched on as even a couple of losses could not bring the boys down."

The team made drastic improvements throughout the tournament seizing a victory in their final game against North Burnett, kicking five goals.

A majority of the Gympie team also plays for the Gympie Cats under-12 side that was unfortunate to go down against North Shore at the weekend.

Look out for a detailed results in Wednesday's paper.
