Gympie set to fire up for flood recovery fundraiser
A BARBECUE will tour flood-affected business districts in Gympie next week as part of a strategy to inject life back into these areas.
The barbecue roadshow will kick off on Wednesday with a sausage sizzle for businesses on Brisbane Rd, One Mile.
People are invited to join the fun outside Concrete Options.
All sausage sizzles will be held between 11am-1pm and a gold coin donation will pay for a feed at any of the locations.
Show the local Aussie spirit from Wednesday until Saturday, where the tour will culminate in a big celebration at Mary St in the morning and Nelson Reserve in the afternoon.
Gympie residents are invited to come along, enjoy a sausage sizzle and show their support for local businesses in each area which are struggling because of the Australia Day weekend floods.
The barbecue will move to businesses in the vicinity of Clematis and Violet Sts on Thursday, but an exact location is yet to be confirmed. Check out next week's The Gympie Times for more details.
Friday's barbecue will be held in the River Rd, Monkland St area at Cooloola Paint and Panel, 35 Monkland St.
The week-long event will culminate with celebrations on Saturday, starting with free entertainment on the City Centre Stage in Mary St from 9am-midday and buskers throughout the main street.
A sausage sizzle will be cooking from 10am-midday.
The day will finish off with a big bang for a second attempt at celebrating Australia Day.
There will be more free live entertainment, 3-6pm, and a lamb on the spit for a gold coin donation.
There will be a jumping castle for the kids and an auction with auctioneer Graham Engeman 3.30pm- 4.30pm.
After a great day in the CBD, revellers can head to Albert Park to see the Gympie All-stars play the Gympie Devils in the Pink Stumps Cricket Charity match from 6.45pm.
