Gympie to celebrate league past

GYMPIE’S illustrious rugby league history will be up in lights with a celebratory dinner in late June and joining the party will be original State of Origin skippers Tommy Raudonikis and ‘Big Artie Beetson’.

Gympie Cooloola Rugby League Club is responsible for the celebrations, to be held at the Gympie Civic Centre, which will also incorporate the Birth of Origin Show.

The date for the gala night in June 25 at the Gympie Civic Centre and organisation ahead of the special event is well underway.

The night aims to reflect on 100 brilliant years of league in Gympie while those attending the dinner will also relish the chance to listen to the two big State of Origin stars recount their glory days.

“One is an immortal and the other voted one of the twelve toughest in rugby league over the past 50 years,” Gympie Cooloola Rugby League Club spokesperson Paul Cummings said.

A memorabilia auction will also be held where avid league fans can seize the opportunity to add to their collections.

Tickets cost $50 per head, including dinner and the show, starting from 6pm, and can be purchased from Harcourts Real Estate Gympie.

Tickets won’t be available at the door and enquiries can be directed to Gympie Cooloola Rugby League on 0400 719 954.
