Gympie Times' old office begins its transformation

THE historic walls of the old Gympie Times building spanning Mary and Nash St will be given new life thanks to Ross Davies.

The well-known Gympie businessman and owner of Davies Furniture Court has happily announced he has bought the premises and has big plans for its future.

Mr Davies said he planned to divide the property into three spaces with the Mary St shop front, formerly office space, re-modelled and used for a retail outlet or similar.

He said the second of the two buildings would be given a facelift and part of it would include 250 square metres of office space.

Mr Davies, who owns several premises in town, said he had always been passionate about re-developing and investing in his home town.

Construction has begun at the premises and Mr Davies said he looked forward to the final product which would provide flood-free office space to locals.

The site was dedicated to The Gympie Times since 1868 and the two current buildings, the shop front located on Mary St and the second editorial building backing onto Nash St, were the home of the newspaper until early last month when staff re-located to the re-furbished old ambulance building at 44 Nash St.
