Gympie teams make Mecano quarters
GYMPIE football sides Columbia and Golden City are ready to launch their assaults on the 2010 Intercity Mecano Cup as quarter final action gets underway this Saturday.
Both sides are two of the eight teams vying for semi finals spots ahead of the grand final of the Mecano Cup.
Quarter final matches will be played at various centres throughout Wide Bay.
The eight teams in the running for semi finals appearances come from Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Maryborough and Gympie. Each centre is well represented with two sides.
Football Gympie officials are hopeful of a place in the final and a shot at final glory.
The draw for the weekend's games was completed with independent witnesses from the Bundaberg NewsMail, JustSports and Steps.
Draw for this Saturday's semi finals is as follows:
- Moore Park (Bundaberg) vs United Warriors (Hervey Bay) at Martens Oval Bundaberg. Kick off at 7pm.
- Sunbury (Maryborough) vs Across the Waves (Bundaberg) at Federation Park Maryborough. Kick off at 5pm.
- Bayside Strikers (Hervey Bay) vs Golden City ( Gympie) at Hervey Bay. Kick off at 5pm.
- Columbia (Gympie) vs Granville (Maryborough) at Gympie. Kick off at 5pm.
While Columbia enjoys the benefit of a home field and crowd advantage in their match against Maryborough's Granville, Golden City will be hitting the road to do battle with Hervey Bay's Bayside Strikers.
Golden City players will leave the One Mile Ovals to head to Hervey Bay by bus at 2.30pm this Saturday with a pocket of home town support.
