Gympie shows appreciation for Greg
THE Gympie Show in 2012 is on track to be bigger and better than ever says Gympie Show secretary Deb Rowlands, and it's thanks in no small part to hardworking volunteers like Greg Langdon.
At this month's AGM, Mr Langdon was presented with life membership to mark his long-time association with the show and to thank him for his efforts.
"We presented Greg Langdon with life membership because he has been a member of the Show Society for 20 years now," Mrs Rowlands said.
Mr Langdon's association with the Show Society began as a site-holder and as one of the sponsors of the event.
Before too long, he became a member of the society.
Mr Langdon then took on the role of space steward, and with the assistance of volunteers, managed the showground layout and co-ordinated site-holders.
After many years of dedicated work in this position, Greg stepped aside and took on the role of bar manager.
"During this time Greg heavily supported the society through his business, Phoenix Hotel, by providing discounted alcohol for the society's many events," Mrs Rowlands said.
"Greg and the Phoenix Hotel have also provided general sponsorship to the society over the past few years which has meant a great deal to the show."
"Like all dedicated members of the society, the show would not be the great success it is today without Greg's time, energy and assistance."
Gympie Show Society president Lars Hedberg said the organisation of the 2012 Gympie Show was well under way.
However, they were hoping to hear from people interested in contributing ideas for the 2013 Gympie Show, which would be the event's 125th anniversary.
"We want to recognise the importance of the event to the community," Mr Hedberg said.
"And we would like to establish a small committee to work on ideas."
