GYMPIE had to return after tea for just one ball to formalise their two-day Sunshine Coast Premier League fixture victory over Nambour at Albert Park on Saturday.

Gold skipper Troy Ashton was expected to declare at 5-232 straight up, and that's just what he did on resuming play for the second day of the match.

Ashton set Nambour a total of 142 after the Cutters' first up 90, and Steve Ledger's 71 produced all but half of the 143 response.

Kaden Dickfos cleaned up the bottom order with ease, taking 4-48.

Ashton said after Ledger's opening of 71, followed by 18 from captain B Milini and 15 from C Roberts, a "domino effect" struck the remainder of the Cutters down fast.

"There wasn't much scoring from the bottom lot," Ashton said.

He said he was pleased with what the Gold brought to the table bowling-wise, despite the intense heat.

'"We bowled really well, in the heat," he said.

"It was a tough sort of outing for us."

Nambour's quick dismissal coincided with the pushed-back tea break, and the sides came out 20 minutes later so Ricky Dann could hit a boundary first ball.

"He didn't muck around," Ashton said.

The win plants Gympie 25 points clear at the top, and a minor premiership is on the cards.

The Gold will play their first of two days' play against Caloundra this Saturday.
