Gympie mountain bike riders gear up for 24 hour event

THIS Easter the Gympie Bike Riders MTB Club will descend on the KONA Hidden Vale 24HR event along with 1000 other like minded mountain bike enthusiasts.

The Easter weekend 24HR event includes solo, team relay and kids mountain biking events starting at 12pm Saturday and finishing at 12pm Sunday at Hidden Vale.

Local talented rider Amanda Reddy will be taking on the gruelling event solo.

Amanda has competed in numerous MTB and Road Cycling events and recently attended the New Zealand 24hr MTB event.

The event is expecting over 100 Solo riders to take on the full 24 hour event riding alongside teams of 2, 4 and 6 on the course.

The Gympie club will have a female team of four called the Often Heard, Seldom Seen consisting of Cathy Milgate who just completed another Ironman Triathlon event in Melbourne, Mandy Finch, Kyla Macdonald and new 24hr rider Leah Zande.

Old Hooligans is the name of the male team also entering consisting of Mike Roderick and president Matt Hunter who both competed last year, and Paul Garlick and Brett Laing.

Competing in the kids 24 minute race will be Joey Milgate (aged 10), Angus Laing (aged 11) and Alex Mewha (aged 12). Taking on the gruelling event solo is Mike Zande.
