Gympie police have good mo skills

GYMPIE police have proved to be among the best in the state at growing moustaches.

More than 20 officers in Gympie put down their razors last month and raised the second-highest amount of money, in the Queensland Police Service during Movember. Through donations, raffles, a movie night and a trivia night, our Gympie boys collected $5818 for the charity, coming in just behind Mackay’s $6000 effort. Hervey Bay’s police came third.

Sergeant Peter Bailey said Gympie police were very happy with support shown by the community and local businesses. He said 115 people had turned up at the Gympie RSL for their trivia night and about 2000 people bought raffle tickets. Sgt Bailey thanked major sponsors Mary Valley Heritage Rail and Brooloo Park.

“I want to show appreciation to all the people in Gympie who supported us – the numerous businesses that helped promote and attend fundraisers and supply donations,” he said.

State wide QPS has raised $37,244 for beyondblue – the charity designed to raise awareness of men’s health issues and support prostate cancer research.
