Gympie police crack break and enter spree
A SPATE of break and enter offences have been committed on business premises around the centre of Gympie recently.
In the early hours of Monday, May 30, Gympie Police received information in relation to the sound of breaking glass.
Uniform crews were immediately tasked to the area and located a break and enter in Lady Mary Terrace.
The building was contained and searched, resulting in two offenders, an adult male and a juvenile male, being located hiding within the premises.
Detectives followed up on the arrest and as a result of investigations the pair were charged with four recent break and enter offences.
The male adult will appear in the Gympie Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The juvenile will appear in the Gympie Children’s Court on Thursday, June 9.
The response by the uniform crew was outstanding, police said.
“But this job clearly shows the importance that the community plays in addressing and assisting police with crime.
“We are a finite resource and can not be everywhere; the community is our eyes and ears and we rely heavily upon community assistance.
“The caller for this job could easily have ignored the sounds and decided that they did not wish to be involved, but that call resulted in two offenders being identified and dealt with in regard to a number of break and enter offences.
“Great work by Gympie Police and impressive work by our community member. Remember, together we can make a difference. Thanks for your ongoing partnership.”
