GYMPIE beauty Breanna Mackay will swap her hairdresser scissors and close family ties for the pace and glamour of the Milan spring/summer fashion season next month.

Breanna has secured a three-month modelling contract with Daf Models in Milan.

It is the culmination of several years development with "mother agent" Jo Sheils of Hunter Model Management, a scouting agency based on the Gold Coast which nurtures and prepares potential young models, and then "leases" them to modelling agencies throughout Australia and the world.

Jo "discovered" Breanna at one of her runway courses, and has two other young Gympie models on her books: Jordi Millard, who she has signed with Dallys Models in Brisbane (the same agency Miranda Kerr started her career with) and 15-year-old Bianca Green, who is still in development.

An excited Breeana was still at work with her "very supportive" Gympie employer La Mode Hair and Beauty yesterday, but will farewell the quiet country life for the Milan commercial fashion season on March 6.

The tall and lithe 18-year-old has been developing her modelling skills with Jo since she was 15, and says that her first international contract is a dream come true.

"Breanna epitomises what a model is," Jo said yesterday.

"She is naturally slender and fine-boned, and she performs very well on the runway."

Breanna is a former St Patrick's College student and talented young sportswoman.
