Gympie man tells of family's pain

WELL known Gympie identity Guenter Kath yesterday told of his sorrow at the death of his three-year-old grandson, Hector, in a drowning accident in North Queensland.

Mr Kath said the boy was the son of Guenter's son, Thomas, who found his son drowned in a dam on the family farm in Dimbulah, near Cairns.

“He was running around the farm with their dog, a big Great Dane.

“After lunch, the dog came home without the boy.

A a two-hour search followed and Thomas eventually found Hector in the dam,” Mr Kath said.
