Gympie league enjoys funding top up for programs
GYMPIE rugby league has raised funds for its development programs this year thanks to a successful event last year featuring two of the game's stars.
Rugby league royalty Petero Civoniceva and Kerrod Walters spoke to a crowd of more than 200 at the Gympie Civic Centre in October.
Brisbane Broncos development officer Darren Burns said the pair took photos and met with people on the night.
"This is the first time an event like this has been held in Gympie," Burns said.
"The Broncos do this throughout Australia at different locations every year.
"It was a great night with just about 200 attending, which is a great result for the town."
The Gympie club has learned it raised $5848 from the event that will go towards the Boys To Men and Smarter Choices programs.
The funds will help pay for resources and allow guest speakers to come and talk to school students about alcohol, drugs, finances and health and nutrition tied in with the Smarter Choices Program.
Burns said the Boys To Men Program would use the funds to reward those who participated in the program and showed good behaviour.
