Gympie wins Wide Bay jnr titles

THE Gympie Hockey Association is celebrating its best result at the junior Wide Bay titles in recent memory after winning the overall championship at Hervey Bay last weekend.

Gympie hockey sent five teams away to the titles with the worst result being second overall against Maryborough, Sunshine Coast and Hervey Bay.

Gympie’s under-15 boys were unbeaten all weekend finishing first, while the under-11 boys also finished top of the table.

Gympie’s under-13 boys, under-13 girls and under-11 girls all finished second.

Gympie Hockey president Ian Wenzel said all the hard work the club was putting into coaching and building up young players was starting to come to fruition.

“Our teams played extremely well we were unbeaten on the first day of competition,” he said.
