GYMPIE State High School's Under 15 rugby league team takes on Shalom College from Bundaberg today for the latest round of the State Knock Out competition.

Gympie High's Christopher Francis said a win for Gympie High would mean they qualified for the next round as Wide Bay champions.

"They have a big chance to become Wide Bay winners," Francis said.

Gympie entered the game confident of a win following several strong performances in recent games.

Gympie High's recent success included a 52-6 win over Kingaroy State High School in the previous round of the knockout competition as well as wins over Burnett State College and Murgon State High School.

Francis said the U15s played particularly well in their home game against Murgon State High school two weeks ago, achieving a convincing a 54-0 win.

Clayton Dodt scored a hat-trick and Mitch Davis converted seven of 10 tries in the game.

The U15s play at 3pm today at Jack Stokes Oval.
