Census data on the way

GYMPIE Regional Council mayor Ron Dyne has welcomed the imminent release of Australia's 2011 Census of Population and Housing, set to give an up-to-date snapshot of the region.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will release the data on Thursday, June 21.

"Census data is vital for understanding our community and will underpin future government planning in the Gympie region," Cr Dyne said.

"The 2011 Census data will help show government decision-makers where amenities such as schools, hospitals, roads and public transport are needed most."

From Thursday, Census data will be availible free on the ABS website.
