Gympie youngsters make their debut

FAIRY lights, butterflies and bowties filled the Gympie Civic Centre on Friday night when 42 young Gympie presentees made their spectacular society "debut" at the annual Catholic Presentation Ball.

A large and appreciative crowd of family and friends joined in the occasion, which went off flawlessly.

Master of ceremonies Dave Connors was joined by parish priest Father Pat Cassidy, chaperones John and Kate Cartwright and other special guests in ensuring the evening flowed smoothly.

The presentees themselves hailed from several Gympie high schools and carried off the traditions of the presentation ball perfectly, dancing the Pride of Erin with their parents after the official Patricia Waltz and, after dinner, dancing the night away with each other and their families and friends.

A sizeable crowd which didn't attend the ball itself watched the formal part of the evening from the gallery.
