Gympie builders pick up awards
GYMPIE builders have been recognised in the latest Master Builders awards held at the Sunshine Coast recently.
Craig Stuart from Stuart Homes and Renovations in Gympie won the award for the best home renovation/remodelling project with a cost between $151,000-$400,000 for the work he did on Jim and Sarah Viner’s Glastonbury home.
It involved renovating the original farmhouse adding an extension and turning the original carport into guest quarters.
The new extension housed the new kitchen, dining and lounge room, while the breezeway that connected the old and new house contained a storeroom, toilet and bathroom.
Mr Stuart wasn’t present at the awards night but found out about the win the next day. “I was pretty chuffed about the whole thing. It is another feather in my cap.”
He said he spent a lot of time designing the extension to keep the heritage style of the building.
Patrick McCarthy won the award for Lifestyle housing with a total project cost of up to $8 million.
His entry was the new Cooinda dementia/high care and administration wings in Cooinda Street at Gympie West.
Long serving Gympie members the Gympie Building Company Pty Ltd (50-59 years), Robertson Brothers (40-49 years) and K&W Nissen Pty Ltd received awards for long service to the industry.
