Gympie boys off to state titles

GYMPIE'S Ben Gear and Tom Manthey have been selected in the Wide Bay schoolboys secondary side.

The pair will travel to Cairns to play in the state titles on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Gear is tipped to open the batting for Wide Bay.

Last weekend he made a well-earned 32 for Colts in the local Gympie competition and is making a name for himself as a hard hitter in the local competition.

Manthey, a Gympie State High School student, has been picked as an all-rounder.

The pair was picked in the side in March this year.

They performed well at a selection trial in Bundaberg.

Grab The Gympie Times next week for a follow-up on Gear and Manthey's progress at the state titles and how well the Wide Bay side performed.
